It'd be great to see some training of alert/mobility for instance, but alerting is a rarity by itself even. We're just a little slow getting on the wagon really! I wrote a letter to my local minister recently complaining generally and have yet to receive a real reply, although they promised the actual minister would read it....Lyssahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00287170057646655092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5239047282330766117.post-55670485558324785372012-05-28T10:06:53.968+10:002012-05-28T10:06:53.968+10:00Wow. I think it's because they started as a mobility assist school and added alert dogs later on, so every dog went through the mobility training. I understand that the situation in Aus is a bit different, though, because there are fewer schools.

~KaliAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5239047282330766117.post-48810490296081602892012-05-25T18:39:49.558+10:002012-05-25T18:39:49.558+10:00Had a quick scan of your blog.... doesn't look...Had a quick scan of your blog.... doesn't look like a nice month for you both... and poor puppy!

Yes, the exhaustion was very difficult - still is of course. But I was hoping to do some migraine alert training, coupled with mobility assistance... and now I'm considering adding basic guiding for when I get a blinding migraine in public. There is no way a program would train such disparate tasks. That and the waiting times here in Aus can be looonnnggg and I thought it would be good for me to have such a big and important project to work on.

He sure was cute though!! The way he is developing has made it all worthwhile. Hope to read about you and Hudson in a coming ADBC.

LyssaLyssahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00287170057646655092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5239047282330766117.post-74650806105202095982012-05-25T09:02:41.485+10:002012-05-25T09:02:41.485+10:00Welcome to the ABDC! I usually post, but it's been a rough month for us (me and Hudson).

See, that exact exhaustion is part of why I didn't go the owner-trained route. My parents got a 6 month old puppy about 7 years ago, and while I was away at college most of the time, I remember how much work he was. And he was a good puppy, he just was energetic and very, very smart. Fatigue is already a big part of my disability, and I can't reliably walk every day. Shoot, when it's hot, I hardly get to leave the house, or I risk fainting (which is embarrassing and quite painful).

On the other hand, I do envy you. Is there anything cuter than a golden puppy? I love goldens. I grew up with a Golden/Samoyed cross, and she was the sweetest, most loving dog...

~KaliAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5239047282330766117.post-34966911264919182992012-05-18T12:15:09.368+10:002012-05-18T12:15:09.368+10:00Neat blog! I think most people with a chronic illness raising a puppy would probably relate to what I said... it was a mixture of complete inability to move at times for sheer exhaustion, and moments of pure joy seeing that bundle of fluff so beautiful just taking in the world. I've been meaning to try out a ADBC for a while but only now got around to it, or was brave enough or something! It was interesting to see how his presence in your life gradually made its impact on you, at even such a young age! Raising a baby puppy is meant to be hard for people who are well, but for me, it was completely earth shatteringly exhausting."
That's how it was for me when Barnum was a puppy. I was so glad when he hit six months, and things got easier.
If you're willing and able to put a link in this post to Patti's carnival post, that would be great.
Thanks again for participating. I hope we'll read more about you and Knightly in future ADBCs.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
